  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (approximately 40 crackers)
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional toppings: chopped pecans, walnuts, sprinkles, sea salt, mini M&Ms, crushed peppermint candies

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then add brown sugar and stir until it boils.
  2. Continue to cook for 3 minutes until caramel turns a rich amber color.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
  4. Pour the hot caramel evenly over the crackers and spread gently. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on the hot caramel, letting them melt for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel.
  7. Sprinkle on your desired toppings and gently press them in.
  8. Let cool completely or refrigerate for about 1 hour, then break into pieces.
  9. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for later.
