A savory homemade focaccia bread enriched with garlic and Parmesan cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for greasing)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with olive oil. Warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil with the minced garlic in a small saucepan over low heat for 1 minute. Set aside.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to the prepared pan, stretching to fit. Cover and let rise for another 20–30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Dimple the dough with your fingertips, drizzle the warm garlic oil over the top, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and Italian herbs.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy at the edges. Let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using fresh herbs like rosemary or adding olives or sun-dried tomatoes.
