  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • ½ cup crushed peppermint candies

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan or microwave; allow to cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition; stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips.
