Preparation

  • Peel, core, and slice apples into even thickness.
  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream sugar and melted butter until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, alternating with milk, until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan.
  • Arrange apple slices on top of the batter.

Baking

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45 to 55 minutes.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Slice and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
