Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef along with diced onion until browned, seasoning with kosher salt and pepper. This should take about 5–7 minutes.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the prepared baking dish, followed by a portion of the beef mixture and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the condensed cheddar soup, evaporated milk, regular milk, and garlic powder until smooth. Pour this over the layered casserole.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Notes

Opt for fresh ingredients for better taste. You can mix in chopped bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrients. Allow the casserole to rest for 10-15 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
