Ingredients
  

For the Red Velvet Cake

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix Provides rich, tender cake with an iconic red hue.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Adds tangy depth to the cake.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Infuses the cake with rich moisture.
  • 3 large eggs Binds everything together.
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring Enhances the festive appeal.

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Base for the trifle’s frosting.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Creates a silky-smooth frosting.
  • 3 cups powdered sugar Sweetens the frosting.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Imparts a warm flavor.

For the Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream Creates a luxurious texture.
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar Enhances sweetness.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Adds depth to the whipped cream.

For the Berry Layer

  • 2 cups fresh raspberries or strawberries Provides a refreshing contrast.
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional for macerating berries) Enhances the natural sweetness of the berries.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the red velvet cake mix, buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and red food coloring. Beat with a mixer on medium speed until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.

Make the Frosting

  • In a separate bowl, mix softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until velvety.
  • In another bowl, whip heavy cream and 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into the cream cheese mixture.

Assemble the Trifle

  • If desired, macerate berries with a tablespoon of sugar for 30 minutes.
  • In a trifle dish or serving cups, layer the red velvet cake, cream cheese mixture, and berries. Repeat layers, finishing with whipped cream and berries on top.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let flavors meld.

Notes

Cool cake completely before layering to prevent melting. Use cold whipping cream for better texture. Fresh berries are recommended.
