Instructions

Preparation

  • Husk and rinse tomatillos: Begin by removing the husks from the tomatillos and rinsing them under cool water to eliminate any sticky residue.
  • Halve the tomatillos: Slice the tomatillos in half and place them in a mixing bowl.
  • Scoop the avocado: Using a spoon, scoop out the flesh of the ripe avocado and add it to the mixing bowl.
  • Add remaining ingredients: Dump the finely chopped cilantro, serrano chile, and halved tomatillos into the bowl, mixing everything together gently.
  • Squeeze lime juice: Add the juice of half a lime and give the mixture a gentle stir.
  • Mash to desired consistency: Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the mixture together, depending on how chunky or smooth you like your salsa.
  • Season with salt: Taste the salsa and sprinkle in salt as needed, letting the mixture rest for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Adjust heat to taste, using less serrano chile for milder salsa. Always use fresh produce for best flavor. Customize with additional ingredients like diced tomatoes or corn for a different texture.
