Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • In a large pot, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Sear the beef on all sides until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove the beef and sauté chopped onions, garlic, and ginger in the same pot until fragrant, about 4 minutes.
  • Add soy sauce, sugar or honey, and water or broth to the pot; stir gently to dissolve.
  • Return the beef to the pot, ensuring it is submerged, then add chopped carrots and bring to a gentle simmer.

Cooking

  • Cover the pot and transfer it to the oven.
  • Braise for 2-3 hours or until the beef is tender enough to shred with a fork.

Serving

  • Remove the beef, slice it, and serve with the sauce and vegetables.

Notes

Serve with fluffy steamed rice or mashed potatoes and garnish with scallions or sesame seeds for added freshness.
