Brownie Layer

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 2-3 tbsp red food coloring Gel food coloring is recommended.

Cream Cheese Swirl

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Should be at room temperature.
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8-inch baking pan by greasing or lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar, whisk until smooth and glossy.
  • Incorporate the eggs, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and red food coloring, mixing well.
  • Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.

Cream Cheese Layer

  • In a separate bowl, beat together cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg until smooth.

Assembly

  • Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Dollop spoonfuls of half the cream cheese mixture on top and use a knife to swirl together.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining brownie and cream cheese mixtures.

Baking

  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Check for doneness with a toothpick; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.

Cooling

  • Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares.
  • For serving, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate if desired.

Notes

For variations, consider adding chocolate chips or nuts to the brownie layer. These brownies can be refrigerated or frozen for longer storage.
