Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Blanch the cabbage: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place it into the boiling water for 2-3 minutes to soften the leaves.
  • Prepare the filling: In a bowl, mix together the ground beef (or turkey), cooked rice, onion, garlic, one can of tomato sauce, oregano, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to preheat at 350°F (180°C).
  • Assemble rolls: Take a cabbage leaf, add a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center, fold the sides over the filling, and roll from the bottom up into a snug package.
  • Prepare the baking dish: Pour a layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of the dish, place the rolls seam side down, drizzle with remaining tomato sauce, and sprinkle with cheese if desired.

Cooking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for approximately 45 minutes, removing the foil for an additional 15-20 minutes to achieve a golden-brown finish.

Serving

  • Let the cabbage rolls cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Select a large, fresh cabbage head and avoid overstuffing the rolls for even cooking. You can freeze unbaked rolls for later use.
