Ingredients
  

For the dip

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter Choose based on preference
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced Regular button mushrooms or any preferred type
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Can substitute for Greek yogurt for a lighter version
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or parsley, chopped For garnish

Preparation

  • Heat the olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 8-10 minutes until browned and tender.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Reduce the heat to low and add the softened cream cheese and sour cream, stirring until melted and combined.
  • Stir in half of the shredded mozzarella and the grated Parmesan until the mixture is creamy.

Baking

  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top of the dip.
  • Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Serving

  • Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley and serve hot with bread, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

For a spicier dip, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes. This dish can be prepared ahead and refrigerated. Bake longer if made in advance. Common variations can include adding cooked sausage or substituting cashew cream for a dairy-free option.
